Help is at hand for Scottish students who receive disappointing exam results

As school students all over Scotland get their exam results tomorrow, it is inevitable that some won't receive the results that they expected - however help and guidance is at hand for those disappointed with their grades.
As 160,000 pupils across Scotland get exam results tomorrow, inevitably some will be disappointed with their grades.

It’s tempting for parents and pupils to panic, especially with so much publicity about college and university courses being oversubscribed, but help is at hand.

You or your child should start with a free call to the Skills Development Scotland (SDS) Exam Results Helpline on 0808 100 8000.
Open from 8am tomorrow, as the SQA results start coming through, it offers advice and support to students and their parents, about college or university, getting a job or finding a Modern Apprenticeship.
While it’s very easy to get annoyed over results, advice is for students to research all of their options.
It gives them more of a sense of being in control and finding the right answer.
If the news tomorrow isn’t as good as hoped, our guide below offers tips to students to help them get the right outcome for them.
“Don’t panic,” says Pauline Graham, a careers adviser with Skills Development Scotland.
“Don’t automatically assume that university is the best option for everyone.
“A year at college can be more beneficial, especially since that tends to offer more support than university and that’s just what some students will need.”

If you don’t perform as well in an exam as expected, you might be able to submit an appeal. SQA examiners check alternative evidence, like a previous preliminary, to see if it warrants your grade being increased. Contact your school and find our more about appeals at…READ MORE
